Updated MASC Policy Reference Manual – September 2023
MASC Field Staff is currently undergoing a comprehensive review of the MASC Policy Reference Manual. Changes as a result of this review are detailed below and copies of these updated policies are available in the Online Policy Reference Manual. We have also posted links to the individual updated policies below, as well as a track change version of the reviewed sections for your reference. Many of these changes, especially those that say updated language, are cleaning up grammar, adding or changing legal references and cross references or other minor edits.
MASC has also added a Reviewed/Updated date to each individual policy within the section.
Policies added to the Reference Manual
- EFE – CIVIL RIGHTS COMPLAINT POLICY FOR CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAMS is new, as required by USDA Food and Nutrition Services 113-1.
- IGA/IGD – CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND ADOPTION updated – combined policies IGA and IGD
- IMGA – SERVICE ANIMALS IN SCHOOL – Service animals separated from policy IMG and are addressed in this policy
Policies we have removed from the Reference Manual
- IE – ORGANIZATION OF INSTRUCTION – removed original purpose of the policy has been addressed by subsequent regulation
- IGD – CURRICULUM ADOPTION combined with policy IGA
- IHAI – OCCUPATIONAL EDUCATION covered in other policies
- IHBG-R – HOME SCHOOLING removed as unnecessary in policy manual
- IHBHE-E – REMOTE LEARNING ADDENDUM removed as unnecessary
- IL – EVALUATION OF INTRUCTIONAL PROGRAMS removed as unnecessary
- IMA – TEACHING ACTIVITIES/PRESENTATIONS removed as unnecessary
Policies you should review
MASC has made changes to the following policies. Some of these changes are a result of legal changes, changes in practice, or simply an updating of language to reflect more modern needs. Some of these changes are very minor and will not require a change at the local level.

- IMG ANIMALS IN SCHOOL revised to reflect current laws and regulations, split into 2 policies. Service animals addressed in new policy IMGA
- JIC – STUDENT DISCIPLINE – Clarifying updates added to intentionally include reference to regulatory requirements specific to: procedures to engage / re-engage students considered for suspension in learning and required documentation of those efforts prior to suspension; and, required notification to parents related to process and rights of parents / students.
